📝 Usage Notes

if continue... you'll end up / I don't care

📖 How to use it

Warns that if someone continues doing something, they will face consequences, and the speaker won't take responsibility.

Attaches to Attach to the て-form of a verb, e.g., して, 行って, できなくて.

This pattern expresses a threat or a warning. The speaker says that if the listener continues with a certain action, they will have to deal with the unpleasant results, and the speaker will not help or care. It is often used in arguments or when scolding someone. For example, a parent might say it to a child who keeps playing instead of studying. The nuance is quite cold and final, so it is not used in polite conversation unless you are intentionally being harsh.

そんなにゲームばかりやって、後で宿題ができなくても知らないよ。
Sonna ni geemu bakari yatte, ato de shukudai ga dekinakute mo shiranai yo.
If you keep playing games like that, don't come crying to me when you can't do your homework.
あんな人と付き合って、傷ついても知らないからね。
Anna hito to tsukiatte, kizutsuite mo shiranai kara ne.
If you date someone like that, you'll get hurt, and I won't care.
このまま借金を続けたら、破産しても知らないぞ。
Kono mama shakkin o tsuzuketara, hasan shite mo shiranai zo.
If you keep going into debt like this, you'll go bankrupt and I won't be responsible.
Not てもいい てもいい means 'may do' and gives permission, while ても知らない is a warning that bad consequences will follow and the speaker won't care.
Register Spoken, informal, often used in anger or as a warning; not used in polite or formal writing.
