Expresses the entire duration of a period up to the present, emphasizing the length or continuity of that time.

Attaches to Attach to a noun expressing a period of time (e.g., 十年, 一週間). No particle between the noun and というもの.

というもの is used to say that something has been happening for a whole period of time, and it emphasizes that the entire period was filled with that activity or state. It often appears with the present perfect form (～ている/～ていなかった) to describe a continuous state that extends from a starting point in the past to now. The nuance is that the duration feels long or that it has been nonstop.

This pattern is quite formal and is mostly found in written language, such as novels, essays, or news articles. In everyday conversation, you would usually use ～てからずっと or simply ～以来. Note that というもの is not the same as というものだ (which means 'this is what ... is'), so be careful not to confuse them.

この十年というもの、彼は一度も故郷に帰っていない。

For one month since the store opened, the stream of customers never stopped.

Not というものだというもの after a time period means 'for that entire period', while というものだ after a verb/noun defines or explains what something is (e.g., 人生とは修行というものだ 'Life is a kind of training'). The context and the word before it are different.
