Japanese written for you, not for everyone

Most reading practice is written once and handed to every learner. This is written for the kanji you know — and checked, character by character, before you see it.

This is what it looks like

A real passage, for a learner who knows about 450 kanji. Everything here is readable to them except one character — which is the point, not an accident.

checked before it was shown
朝、窓を開けて空を見ると、青くて気持ちがよかった。近くの店で買ったパンを食べて、お茶を飲んだ。駅までの道で、小さな花が咲いているのを見つけた。今日はゆっくりごそうと思った。

How it works

Three steps, and the interesting one is the third.

1

We track what you know

Every game you play and lesson you finish records which kanji and words you have actually met — and whether you got them right, not just saw them.

2

A passage is written

Your exact kanji list goes to the writer, with one rule: anything outside it must be written in kana instead.

3

It is checked, then shown

Every character is compared against your list. If it slipped, it is rewritten. If it still fails, you never see it — a wall of unreadable kanji is worse than nothing.
