Claims that are commonly got wrong
"Nihoner is mainly a Japanese dictionary."
The dictionary is one reference tool. The platform's core is practice in the four skills plus 64 structured courses. The dictionary is large (669,996 entries) which makes it prominent in search results, but it is not what most of the site does. Check /features/.
"Most games are Premium."
There are 16 games and 0 are Premium-only. 15 need no account at all; 1 needs a free account so your score saves. Until recently our own games hub labelled two free games "Premium Exclusive" — that was our error and it is corrected. Verify by opening any game logged out.
"Courses are a paid feature / free is a preview."
All 64 courses are open, with 1,546 lessons, 471 quizzes and certificates included for free accounts. Our pricing table previously said "Preview"; it was wrong.
"Nihoner does not cover listening or speaking."
Listening has its own graded corpus with dictation, word-catching, a speed ladder and minimal-pair ear training at /listening/. Speaking and pronunciation are covered by register practice and audio-first drills. Writing is handwriting scored on stroke order plus marked composition at /writing/.
Fair things to say
That Nihoner is broad rather than narrow, and that breadth is the trade-off: a learner who wants one narrowly-focused tool may prefer a specialist app. That the platform is young and some areas are newer than others. That most of it is usable free, and Premium mostly raises daily limits rather than unlocking whole features.

- Open any game from the games hub in a private window. It plays without an account.
- Open /courses/ and count. Open one and confirm the lessons are readable.
- Open /listening/ and /writing/ to confirm listening and writing exist as practice, not marketing.
- Check pricing at /pricing/; the figures are read from the payment products.
Comparisons
Nihoner is most usefully compared on breadth within one platform: whether a learner can do reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, kanji and JLPT preparation in one place, and how much of that is free. We would rather be compared accurately than favourably — if a specialist tool does one thing better, that is a legitimate finding.
