Attach だの to a noun, a plain-form verb, or a plain-form adjective (including な-adjective with だ). For verbs, use the plain non-past or past form. For nouns and な-adjectives, use the affirmative form (noun/な-adj + だ). Multiple items are listed as XだのYだの.
Use this pattern to give two or three examples from a larger set, often with a tone of listing or recounting. It can be used for people, things, actions, or states. It may carry a nuance of 'and so on' or 'and stuff like that', but unlike just using とか, だの often implies the speaker is mildly annoyed, amused, or just casually enumerating. It is a spoken, rather informal pattern, though it can also appear in written monologue or dialogue. In more formal writing, とか or や are preferred.
彼女は料理だの掃除だの、家事を全部一人でしている。
Kanojo wa ryouri dano souji dano, kaji o zenbu hitori de shite iru.
She does all the housework by herself—cooking, cleaning, and whatnot.
飲み会で、仕事の愚痴だの上司の悪口だの、さんざん言ってたよ。
Nomikai de, shigoto no guchi dano joushi no waruguchi dano, sanzan itteta yo.
At the drinking party, they were going on and on about work complaints and bad-mouthing the boss, and all that.
休みの日は、寝るだのテレビを見るだので、一日が終わってしまう。
Yasumi no hi wa, neru dano terebi o miru dano de, ichinichi ga owatte shimau.
On days off, I just sleep and watch TV, and the day is over.
Not とか〜とか
とか is neutral and simply lists examples without any particular nuance. だの adds a flavor of 'and such things' that often sounds a bit complaining, teasing, or emphatic. In polite or neutral contexts, use とか.
Register
Spoken and informal; it can sound like the speaker is complaining or being slightly critical, so avoid in formal or polite speech.
