The content on Nihoner.com is protected by copyright, database rights, and other intellectual property laws. This Policy explains how users may fairly use both Nihoner-owned original content and third-party licensed or API content that appears on the platform.
1. Ownership Categories

All original materials created or commissioned by Nihoner (such as site design, proprietary exercises, code, audio/video, and articles) are the exclusive property of Nihoner. See Section 6 of our Terms & Conditions for details. - Third-Party Licensed & API Content
Some materials (including dictionary entries, lexicon data, grammar lists, kanji datasets, cultural notes, and other media) are provided under licenses, APIs, or open-data projects. Ownership of such content remains with the original rights holder. Nihoner makes it available under limited usage rights in accordance with the relevant license. You may only use third-party or API-fed content in line with Nihoner’s limited license and the rights of the original provider.
2. What You May Do
You may:
- Access and use content on Nihoner for personal, non-commercial study and reference.
- Quote short excerpts with proper attribution for academic, research, or review purposes.
- Save and practice words through our dictionary, lexicon, and vocabulary tools within your account.
3. What You May Not Do
You may not, without prior written permission from Nihoner and/or the relevant rights holder:
- Reproduce, republish, or redistribute our content for commercial purposes.
- Copy or export significant portions of our dictionary, lexicon, datasets, or courses.
- Train, fine-tune, or feed Nihoner’s data into third-party AI or machine-learning systems.
- Circumvent technical restrictions, scraping limits, or API controls.
- Remove or alter copyrights, trademarks, watermarks, or attribution notices.
4. Requests for Commercial Use
For teaching, publishing, institutional licensing, or other commercial use, please contact [email protected]. Commercial permissions may require both Nihoner’s approval and approval from the third-party rights holder.
5. Enforcement
Unauthorized use may result in:
- Takedown notices (including under the DMCA, EU Digital Services Act, and global equivalents).
- Account suspension or termination.
- Civil or criminal legal action, including claims for damages, costs, and attorneys’ fees.
