Youth Protection Policy

Last Updated: 29-Oct-2025

1. Purpose & Commitment

Nihoner is committed to protecting the safety, privacy, and well-being of minors and young learners worldwide. This Policy outlines how we design our platform to comply with the strictest youth protection standards, including the EU GDPR (Articles 8 & 17), UK GDPR, COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, U.S.), APPI (Japan), and other international frameworks.

Our approach is based on:

  • Prevention — restricting underage use.
  • Protection — removing harmful or unsafe content.
  • Parental Involvement — ensuring guardians retain oversight.
  • Transparency & Accountability — clear commitments, enforceable rights.

2. Minimum Age for Use

  • Nihoner is not directed to children under the minimum digital consent age (16 in the EU/EEA, 13 in the U.S., or higher if required by local law).
  • Users under 18 must have parental or guardian consent and supervision to register or purchase services.
  • If we learn of unauthorized accounts created by minors, we will terminate them immediately and securely delete all associated personal data. Refunds are not provided where accounts were fraudulently created in breach of this Policy.

3. Parental Responsibility & Tools

  • Parents/guardians are expected to monitor their child’s usage and approve any purchases.
  • We provide parental guidance resources and instructions on monitoring and controlling account access.
  • Guardians may at any time:
    • Request an export or deletion of their child’s data.
    • Request suspension of account activity.
    • Opt out of marketing or data-sharing features.

4. Safe Content & Moderation

  • Nihoner prohibits the creation, distribution, or display of content that is violent, sexually explicit, discriminatory, abusive, or otherwise harmful to minors.
  • AI-generated and community content are subject to:
    • Pre-moderation filters (e.g., language filters, image recognition).
    • Ongoing human moderation for high-risk features.
    • Proactive monitoring of flagged accounts.
  • Reporting & escalation tools allow users to flag inappropriate content or behavior. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours and acted upon promptly.

5. Data Handling & Privacy of Minors

  • Nihoner does not knowingly collect, store, or process personal data from users under the minimum age of consent.
  • If such data is discovered:
    • It is immediately deleted or anonymized.
    • The account is suspended pending parental verification.
  • Sensitive data (location, biometrics, educational progress) is never shared with third parties except as legally required or with verified parental consent.
  • All data transfers involving minors are reviewed for compliance with GDPR, COPPA, and equivalent laws.

6. Enforcement & Accountability

  • Zero tolerance for breaches of this Policy. Offending accounts may be permanently terminated.
  • All employees, moderators, and vendors are trained annually on child safety obligations.
  • Compliance with this Policy is reviewed annually by internal audits and external legal advisors.
  • Government or regulator requests related to minors are handled transparently and, where permitted, guardians will be notified.
