いかに is an adverb that means 'how' or 'in what way', but it often carries a sense of emphasis or rhetorical questioning. It is commonly used in formal or written Japanese, and in set phrases like いかに...か (how...!) or いかにして (how, by what means).
いかにしてこの問題を解決するかが重要だ。
Ikani shite kono mondai o kaiketsu suru ka ga juuyou da.
How we solve this problem is important.
彼の言葉は、いかに辛い思いをしたかを物語っている。
Kare no kotoba wa, ikani tsurai omoi o shita ka o monogatatte iru.
His words tell of how painful his experience was.
いかに努力しても、彼には追いつけない。
Ikani doryoku shite mo, kare ni wa oitsukenai.
No matter how hard I try, I can't catch up with him.
Not どんなに
Both can mean 'how (much)'. いかに is more formal and literary; どんなに is common in speech and often used with ても to mean 'no matter how'.
