📝 Usage Notes

please let me do

📖 How to use it

Asks permission to do something, 'please let me do'.

Attaches to Use the て-form of a causative verb followed by ください. The causative form is made from Group 1 verbs by changing the final -u to -aseru (e.g., 行く -> 行かせる), Group 2 verbs by changing the final -ru to -saseru (e.g., 食べる -> 食べさせる), and irregular verbs: する -> させる, 来る -> こさせる. Then use the て-form of that causative verb (e.g., 行かせて, 食べさせて, させて, こさせて) followed by ください.

This pattern is a polite way to ask for permission to do something. You use it when you want to do an action and you ask the listener to allow it. For example, if you want to leave early, you say 早く帰らせてください. It is more humble than just saying 帰りたいです, because it frames the action as something you need permission for.

Not てください (just 'please do') てください asks someone else to do something, while させてください asks permission for yourself to do it. Compare: ここで待ってください (Please wait here) vs. ここで待たせてください (Please let me wait here).
Register Polite and formal, suitable for requests to superiors, customers, or in public situations; in casual speech, you might hear させてもらう or just させて but させてください is standard for polite requests.
