Common intransitive verb for physical distance or departure; unlike transitive 離す, it describes a state or one's own movement away.
駅はここから離れています。
Eki wa koko kara hanarete imasu.
The station is far from here.
彼は十八歳で家を離れた。
Kare wa juuhassai de ie o hanareta.
He left home at eighteen.
⚖️ Not to be confused with 離す (hanasu), which is transitive: you separate something, whereas 離れる means you or it become separated.
