One way to write it
先週、友だちが引っこしの準備でとてもこまっていたので、私は日曜日に手伝うことにしました。友だちは一人でぜんぶできないと言っていたからです。手伝った理由は、むかし私がこまったとき、その友だちが助けてくれたからです。仕事がおわったあと、友だちが「安心した」と笑ってくれて、私もとてもうれしかったです。
The reason is given with 〜ので right after こまっていた, which makes the decision sound natural and gentle. The three required words appear in context: 手伝う as a verb, 理由 to label the explanation, and 安心 as the friend's feeling at the end.
