📖 How to use it
Marks the way or method of doing an action, equivalent to 'how to' in English.
Attaches to
Attach to the ます-stem (pre-masu form) of a verb. For example, 食べます -> 食べ方, 行きます -> 行き方.
This pattern turns a verb into a noun that expresses the manner or method of doing that action. It is very common in everyday conversation and is used to ask or explain how to do things. For example, if you want to ask how to get to a place, you say 行き方を教えてください. The ます-stem is the part before ます in the polite form, so you always take that form and add 方.
日本語の書き方を教えてください。
Nihongo no kakikata o oshiete kudasai.
Please teach me how to write Japanese.
この料理の作り方は簡単です。
Kono ryouri no tsukurikata wa kantan desu.
The way to make this dish is simple.
駅までの行き方がわかりません。
Eki made no ikikata ga wakarimasen.

こと nominalizes an action (e.g., 食べること = eating), while 方 indicates the method or way (e.g., 食べ方 = how to eat).
