A formal, literary term for a legendary or epochal hero, rarely used for everyday heroes (see ヒーロー).
彼は国民的英雄として讃えられた。
Kare wa kokuminteki eiyuu toshite tataerareta.

Eiyuu no densetsu ga katari tsugarete iru.
The legend of the hero is passed down.
⚖️ Commonly confused with ヒーロー (hīrō), which is a casual loanword for heroes in fiction or media, while 英雄 is more formal and often historical.
