Intransitive verb used for children, animals, or plants growing up; the transitive counterpart is 育てる.
彼は田舎で育った。
Kare wa inaka de sodatta.
He was raised in the countryside.
この木は早く育つ。
Kono ki wa hayaku sodatsu.
This tree grows quickly.
⚖️ Don't confuse with 育児 (ikuji, child-rearing as a noun) or the transitive 育てる (sodateru), which needs an object.
