Used mostly in writing or formal speech, often in compounds like 紛い物 (imitation) or 〜紛い (pseudo-), not in casual conversation.
それは本物ではなく紛い物だ。
Sore wa honmono de wa naku magaimono da.
That is not genuine but an imitation.
彼は紛いの芸術家と呼ばれている。
Kare wa magai no geijutsuka to yobarete iru.
He is called a sham artist.
⚖️ Not to be confused with 紛れ (magire), which means being mixed in or lost; 紛い implies a counterfeit or pseudo- thing.
